Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)
Powertrain
A HEV combines a petrol engine with an electric motor.
Battery
The battery is self-charging through driving, so you never need to plug it in.
How it works
A HEV automatically switches between petrol and electric power to improve fuel efficiency.
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)
Powertrain
A PHEV also combines a petrol engine with an electric motor.
Battery
PHEVs have a larger battery compared to HEVs, which can be charged by plugging it in. Compatible with both AC and DC charging options.
How it works
A PHEV prioritises electric driving in EV mode, automatically switching to Hybrid mode when charge is low, while regenerating energy on the go.
Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)
Powertrain
A BEV consists of a large-scale battery, electric motor(s), and an inverter. All components operate entirely on electric power.
Battery
The battery must be plugged in to recharge. Compatible with both AC and DC charging options.
How it works
When charged, the battery and electric motor powers the vehicle, with zero tailpipe emissions as a result.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV)
Powertrain
Hydrogen is stored in the vehicle’s safe and durable tanks before being released into the fuel cell system.
Battery
Hydrogen and oxygen from the air combine in a chemical reaction that creates electricity to power the battery and electric motor.
How it works
After the chemical reaction creates electricity, the only tailpipe emissions are water vapour and oxygen.
